What is beat-matching?

Beat-matching is a technique employed by DJs to move seamlessly between two songs in a set. Essentially, DJs temporarily (or permanently) alter the tempo of the next track in a set to match that of the track currently playing, allowing them to mix between the two playing simultaneously with no pause between songs.

This technique is used to keep the flow of music constant, avoiding sudden breaks or stops between tracks, whilst allowing the DJ to express him or herself and to show their talent. The skill and originality with which a DJ can beat-match is often what differentiates an excellent DJ from a beginner.
