Hey there folks,  sorry its been such a while since the last post on the BeatsBase blog.  Thankfully one or two things have been going on behind the scenes ensuring the evolution of the BeatsBase community which may not be immediately obvious to the naked eye.

Perhaps most exciting is the fact that, based on the quality of the mixes uploaded to BeatsBase, we have been approached by more than one on-line DJ radio station about the possibility of working together to promote the work of our talented members.  Needless to say there are a few technical issues to discuss but all being well we should have some exciting announcements to make over the coming days and weeks!  Watch this space!

I’m pleased to announce that the changes mentioned in my last post are now complete making BeatsBase more interactive than ever and even easier to use! So what have we done?! Well as you can see the homepage now has a recent users list and online player that lets you hear the 25 latest mixes uploaded to BeatsBase.

What’s more we’ve made it much easier to upload mixes to the site by allowing you all to upload mixes even if you don’t add any of the details of the songs in your mix. Of course you can still add as much detail as ever but by making it optional we hope it should be easier for more of you to upload your work! As always we’d love to hear what you think of our latest changes, enjoy!

You may have noticed that BeatsBase has recently undergone some fairly significant changes.  You may also have experienced some minor disruptions which I can assure you are just short term side effects of the site’s renovation.  Chris, BeatsBase’s resident computer brain, is only a matter of hours away from completing the update so you can expect to see a more detailed blog entry highlighting the improvements to BeatsBase very soon.  Stay tuned!

As you may have noticed from the forums a few people have had a little trouble uploading mix files. We’re really sorry about this, and we hope it hasn’t put anyone off using the BeatsBase service. The good news it we’ve figured out one of the reasons why some uploads have been failing.

There’s a strange quirk with the technology we use for uploads (Adobe Flash for you geeks) which means it may throw up a warning message which asks:

 ”A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 9 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?”

Please don’t worry if you see this, all you have to do is simply hit ‘No’ and the file will upload without any problems!  Thanks again folks for pointing this out to us!

Thanks to the keen eye of one of our newest members, BeatsBase’s genre list now includes ‘turntablism’ which for some reason was omitted originally. Perhaps it was my modest ability in this area that led me to subconsciously leave it out but nevertheless its there now. Let’s hope its inclusion sparks all you ‘turntablists’ into action, I for one could do with a lesson in the art of sound manipulation!
